Prof. Dr. Mustafa Teoman Yanmaz - Medical Oncology Professor

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Teoman Yanmaz is a Professor of Medical Oncology whose graduation from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine (1994), specialty training in Internal Medicine (1994-1999) and Medical Oncology fellowship (2003-2006), appointment as Associate Professor (2015), promotion to Professor (2021), presidency of Turkey's first oncology society, editorial role in the De-Vita oncology textbook Turkish translation (2024).

Born in Şanlıurfa in 1971, Prof. Dr. Yanmaz graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1994, one of Turkey's oldest and most prestigious medical schools. He immediately began his Internal Medicine residency at the same institution, completing it in 1999. From 1999 to 2003, he worked as an Internal Medicine specialist in private sector and various state hospitals, gaining broad clinical experience.

Recognizing his interest in oncology, Dr. Yanmaz pursued advanced fellowship training in Medical Oncology at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine from 2003 to 2006. After completing his oncology fellowship, he worked at various state and private hospitals, steadily building his reputation and expertise. In 2015, he achieved the academic rank of Associate Professor (Doçent) in Medical Oncology, recognizing his scholarly contributions and clinical excellence.

Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. Yanmaz has held teaching positions at multiple universities. He has taught courses at Harran University, Kemerburgaz University, Avrupa Vocational School, and Üsküdar University. In 2021, he was appointed to a Professorship position at Kocaeli Health and Technology University, where he currently serves, combining clinical practice with academic responsibilities and medical education.

Prof. Dr. Yanmaz's scholarly work includes numerous publications in national and international medical journals, presentations at congresses and symposiums, and authorship of chapters in medical textbooks.

Beyond clinical and academic work, Prof. Dr. Yanmaz is deeply involved in professional organizations. He serves as President of the Chemotherapy Society, Turkey's first oncology society, providing leadership to the oncology community. From 2021 to 2022, he served as a Board Member and Treasurer of TTOD (Turkish Medical Oncology Society), contributing to the society's governance and financial management. He is a Founding Member and current Vice President of MONDER (Marmara Oncology Society), and a Founding Member of the Istanbul Oncology Group. He is also a member of ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology), connecting him to the international oncology community.

Prof. Dr. Yanmaz has presided over and participated in numerous domestic and international congresses and symposiums, serving on organizing committees and scientific committees for major conferences. His leadership in professional organizations and conference participation demonstrates his commitment to advancing the field of oncology.

His clinical interests and expertise include tumor genetics, immunotherapy, targeted therapy (smart drugs), breast cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer and other gastrointestinal cancers, genitourinary cancers, and gynecologic cancers. He maintains a private clinic in Ataköy, Istanbul, where he provides personalized oncology care to patients while continuing his academic work at Kocaeli University.

Prof. Dr. Yanmaz is married with 2 children, balancing his demanding career in clinical oncology, academic medicine, medical education, and professional organization leadership with family life.
