From 1992 to 1997, Prof. Atahan worked at TCDD Ankara Hospital where he not only practiced urology but also published the TCDD Medical Bulletin journal (TCDD Tıp Bülteni adlı dergiyi çıkardı), demonstrating early commitment to medical publishing. In 1993, he received postgraduate training at Middlesex Hospital in London, England (İngiltere Londra'da Middle Sex Hospital'da mezuniyet sonrası eğitim çalışmalarında bulundu), gaining international exposure. Also in 1993, he completed his military service at Konya Air Force Hospital (Konya Hava Hastanesi'nde askerlik hizmetini tamamladı).
From 1997 to 2001, Prof. Atahan served as a faculty member at Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine Urology Department (Pamukkale Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Üroloji ABD'da öğretim üyeliğinde bulundu). In 1997, he successfully passed the Associate Professor (Doçent) examination and became Assistant Editor of the Faculty Journal (Tıp Fakültesi Dergisi'nin editör yardımcılığını üstlendi).
From June 2001 to 2004, Prof. Atahan served as Chief Physician (Başhekimlik) at Bursa Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital, demonstrating administrative leadership. In 2001, he passed the Ministry of Health's Department Head Examination (Sağlık Bakanlığı'nın açmış olduğu şeflik sınavını kazanarak) and was appointed as Urology Department Head at Bursa Yüksek İhtisas, serving in this leadership role until 2011.
In 2011, Prof. Atahan moved to Bursa Medicalpark Hospital. From 2015 to 2017, he served as Professor at Kemerburgaz (Altınbaş) University Faculty of Medicine Urology Department (Kemerburgaz (Altınbaş) Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Üroloji ABD'da Profesör olarak görev yaptı), achieving the rank of full Professor.
Since 2021, Prof. Atahan operates his own private clinic (özel muayenehanesinde hasta kabulüne devam etmektedir) while continuing to serve on the Editorial Boards of Şişli Etfal Hospital Journal and Yeni Üroloji Journal (Şişli Etfal Hastanesi Dergisi ve Yeni Üroloji Dergisi danışma Kurulu üyesi).
