Prof. Dr. Hasan Semih Halezaroğlu is a renowned Professor in Thoracic Surgery with 38 years of medical experience. Prof Dr Hasan Semih Halezeroğlu is a Professor in Thoracic Surgery born in Trabzon in 1965. He graduated from İstanbul Üniversitesi Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi in 1987 and served at Yozgat Çekerek health center. He completed his thoracic surgery specialty at Heybeliada Thoracic Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Center in 1992, with a specialty thesis on thoracoscopy, being the first written source on closed thoracic surgery in Turkey.
Professional Journey
He performed the first thoracoscopic surgery in Turkey in 1992 and the first lung cancer VATS surgery in Turkey in 2001. He achieved the Associate Professor title in 2001 and was the first Turkish thoracic surgeon to receive Fellow of European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (FETCS) certification in 2001. He presided over the European Thoracic Surgery Society (ESTS) Annual Scientific Congress in İstanbul in 2002, the first such congress in Turkey, and was elected President of ESTS in 2005-2006, being the first Turkish thoracic surgeon to lead the organization with members from over 90 countries.
